Leandro Cury

Leandro Cury is a Brazilian singer and songwriter living in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. His performances combine a mix of interpretive covers of songs from the 60’s through the 90’s, as well as his own original songs in Portuguese and English.

Leandro was born in Brasilia, Brazil on January 21, 1982. As long as he can remember, he had a passion for singing, drawing inspiration from famous national and international acts. Famous Brazilians acts including Legião Urbana, Os Paralamas du Sucesso and Barão Vermelho and the songwriting of Renato Russo were an early inspiration in Leandro’s life.

At the age of 14, Leandro got his first guitar. He bought songbooks at the corner store which taught him finger placement for chords and began to recreate the songs of bands his mother’s love of classic rock had exposed him to, such as Pink Floyd and Queen

Leandro began to play in bands at the age of 16, experimenting with various genres from punk to rock. After the breakup of his band Casablanca, Leandro took time to explore another passion in his life, becoming a dive instructor in Western Mexico. After some time back in Brazil taking care of family, Leandro again returned to Mexico – this time to the Riviera Maya region to resume his musical career.

Leandro’s time since returning to Mexico has been spent perfecting his craft as a soloist and performer, as well as connecting with his spirituality which you will find present in his music. His intricate acoustic guitar licks on “A Horse with No Name”, the Native American flute playing features on “Hurt” and his haunting wailing on his original song “Estrela” all illustrate the deep connection Leandro has forged through these experiences.
